BEFORE embarking on the exciting adventure of purchasing your first Australian Miniature Pony, it is advisable to keep the following points in mind to ensure that the pony you choose is the perfect one for your needs.
Things to do before you buy! 1. Obtain a list of breeders from your State Delegate (click to contact) 2. Visit a number of studs before making any decision to purchase. 3. If you have little or no experience with ponies, enlist the help of a knowledgeable horse person to advise on soundness and confirmation 4. Only top quality animals should be purchased if you intend on breeding or showing, these will be more costly. Geldings (neutered males) are less expensive and make ideal pets, harness or show ponies. 5. Please be aware that height measurements can vary quite a bit between societies. Australian Miniature Ponies are measured in centimetres not inches. The height is measured at the HIGHEST point of the pony's wither and must not exceed 87cm. Mares measuring over 87cm and 91.5 cm may be appendix recorded (however these mares are not "registered" they are "appendix recorded". Those ponies which measured 85cm or more at their 4 year height measurement must be re measured at 6 years and before reaching 7 years. 6. If you have any queries regarding the eligibility of a pony for AMPS Registration, check with your State Delegate BEFORE buying. 7. Remember to join the Australian Miniature Pony Society when you decide to purchase a pony (or before). 8. Contact the Secretary for membership information.
10. The Australian Miniature Pony Society Inc cannot become involved
in disputes between buyers and sellers, these are contractual matters
between the two individuals involved. You are advised to take
responsibility yourself for checks of registration, unsoundness,
eligibility etc. |
